Search for a new bottomonium state decaying to Υ(1S)π+π- in pp collisions at s=8 TeV
Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics 727:1-3 (2013) 57-76
Abstract:
The results of a search for the bottomonium counterpart, denoted as Xb, of the exotic charmonium state X(3872) is presented. The analysis is based on a sample of pp collisions at s=8 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.7 fb-1. The search looks for the exclusive decay channel Xb→Υ{hooked}(1S)π+π- followed by Υ{hooked}(1S)→μ+μ-. No evidence for an Xb signal is observed. Upper limits are set at the 95% confidence level on the ratio of the inclusive production cross sections times the branching fractions to Υ{hooked}(1S)π+π- of the Xb and the Υ{hooked}(2S). The upper limits on the ratio are in the range 0.9-5.4% for Xb masses between 10 and 11 GeV. These are the first upper limits on the production of a possible Xb at a hadron collider. © 2013 CERN.Search for top squarks in r-parity-violating supersymmetry using three or more leptons and b-tagged jets

Abstract:
A search for anomalous production of events with three or more isolated leptons and bottom-quark jets produced in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb-1 collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2012. No excess above the standard model expectations is observed. The results are interpreted in the context of supersymmetric models with signatures that have low missing transverse energy arising from light top-squark pair production with R-parity-violating decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle. In two models with different R-parity-violating couplings, top squarks are excluded below masses of 1020 GeV and 820 GeV when the lightest supersymmetric particle has a mass of 200 GeV. © 2013 CERN.A low-mass cut-off near the hydrogen burning limit for Salpeter-like initial mass functions in early-type galaxies
