Research Interests
My research focuses on the development of a quantum computer based on trapped atomic ions. In particular, my team are developing methods to integrate small optical cavities into the structure of ion trap processor chips. Arranging the cavity mirrors around individual ion qubits will allow us to efficiently produce and capture single photons from the ion on-demand. These photons can then be transmitted over optical fibre links to entangle pairs of qubits in separate locations, allowing a large computer to be built from a modular network of smaller, simpler nodes.
