Dr. Lopez is a postdoctoral research assistant under the joint supervision of Prof. Schekochihin and Prof. Gregori. He completed his undergraduate degree at MIT in 2015 and completed his masters degree in plasma physics at Princeton University in 2017. In 2022, he received his PhD in plasma physics from Princeton University for the thesis titled "Metaplectic geometrical optics", advised by Prof. Ilya Dodin, in which he developed a new asymptotic method (and associated numerical algorithms) for solving wave equations in the semiclassical limit that remains well-behaved even at caustics. At Oxford, he is now working on laboratory laser-plasma investigations of the anomalously low heat conductivity observed in certain astrophysical plasmas.
