I work on developing physical theories describing the accretion process around black holes.  In particular I aim to understand these systems in physical regimes which are not usually studied, but which are important to understanding the full range of astronomical data available to modern instruments. I am currently working on the problem of accretion within the "ISCO" of black holes, and wrote my thesis on relativistic accretion in the time-dependent regime. Observational probes of these theories include tidal disruption events and black hole X-ray binaries.
