Abstract:

The HARP Collaboration has presented measurements of the double-differential π± production cross section in the range of momentum 100 MeV/c≤p≤800 MeV/c and angle 0.35 rad≤θ≤2.15 rad with proton beams hitting thin nuclear targets. In many applications the extrapolation to long targets is necessary. In this article the analysis of data taken with long (one interaction length) solid cylindrical targets made of carbon, tantalum, and lead is presented. The data were taken with the large-acceptance HARP detector in the T9 beam line of the CERN proton synchrotron. The secondary pions were produced by beams of protons with momenta of 5, 8, and 12GeV/c. The tracking and identification of the produced particles were performed using a small-radius cylindrical time projection chamber placed inside a solenoidal magnet. Incident protons were identified by an elaborate system of beam detectors. Results are obtained for the double-differential yields per target nucleon d2σ/dpdθ. The measurements are compared with predictions of the MARS and GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulations. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:

A measurement of the cross section for the inclusive production of isolated photons by the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider is presented. The measurement covers the pseudorapidity region |ηγ|<1.0 and the transverse energy range ETγ>30GeV and is based on 2.5fb-1 of integrated luminosity. The sample is almost a factor of 7 larger than those used for recent published results and extends the ETγ coverage by 100 GeV. The result agrees with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations within uncertainties over the range 50

Experimental measurements of neutrino cross-sections near 1 gev

Acta Physica Polonica B 40:9 (2009) 2421-2444

Abstract:

We summarise recent neutrino and antineutrino measurements near 1 GeV by the K2K, MiniBooNE and SciBooNE collaborations. We focus on experimental methods and note discrepancies between the most commonly used models for neutrino-nucleus interactions and recent high statistics observations of charged-current quasi-elastic scattering as well as charged and neutral current pion production on carbon and oxygen. We discuss possible directions for future measurements.

Neutrino physics

Proceedings of Science (2009)

Abstract:

Neutrino physics experienced an explosion of new results around the turn of the century, and is now poised for another leap with a set of new experiments in preparation. The purpose of this article, like the talk it was based on, is to provide a global context to the various neutrino projects and topics discussed at the conference and say a few words about other related projects that might help explain and motivate the interest in them. It is certainly not a global review of neutrino physics (which would require far too much space)! I have not provided references to those experiments/projects discussed at the conference, as you should look at the specific presentations by the real experts to get more information. I have provided a few references for those topics I thought important to discuss which weren't otherwise discussed at the conference. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence.
