Authors:

C Liu, A Seeds, J Chadha, P Stavrinou, G Parry, M Whitehead, A Krysa, J Roberts

Abstract:

We report for the first time broadband DPSK 5.2 GHz wireless over fibre transmission using a normal-incidence reflective InGaAsP/InGaAsP MQW AFPM as both modulator and photodetector for Passive Picocell applications.

Design, Fabrication and Characterisation of Normal-Incidence 1.56-μm Multiple-Quantum-Well Asymmetric Fabry-Perot Modulators for Passive Picocells

IEICE Transactions on Electronics E86-C:7 (2003) 1281-1289

Authors:

CP Liu, A Seeds, JS Chadha, PN Stavrinou, G Parry, M Whitehead, A Bogdanovich Krysa, J Stuart Roberts

Abstract:

We have designed and fabricated air-bridged modulators with bandwidths exceeding 10 GHz, the highest yet realised to date for InGaAsP/InGaAsP multiple-quantum-well (MQW) asymmetric Fabry-Perot modulators (AFPMs). Microwave modulation, measurements of intermodulation between the photodetected downlink and modulated uplink signals, and bi-directional broadband data over fibre transmission experiments have been performed to verify the potential of the AFPM as a single electrical/optical transceiver. We also report the first direct integration of this AFPM with a microstrip patch antenna and present results of a preliminary microwave signal transmission experiment over a distance of 1.4m in free-space at 5.2GHz with the integrated AFPM as a photodetector.

Detailed spectral analysis of 2D photonic crystal structures embedded into ridge waveguides

OSA Trends in Optics and Photonics Series 88 (2003) 988-990

Authors:

S Klengel, P Caillaud, RF Oulton, PN Stavrinou, G Parry, J Heffernan, B Poole

Abstract:

2D Photonic Crystals (PhC) were patterned into free-standing GaAs/AlGaAs ridge waveguides. Detailed characterization and Fourier analysis of the data were used to assess the performance of the PhC. Excellent agreement with our model was found. © 2003 Optical Society of America.
