Research in the condensed matter theory group focuses on complex systems in and out of equilibrium, and their links to quantum materials, quantum and classical information theory, and biophysics. We use theoretical and computational tools from field theory, statistical mechanics, and hydrodynamics to explore problems as diverse as chaos and thermalization, evolution and self-assembly, soft and active matter, biophysics, deep learning, topological phases, and quantum magnetism. We collaborate with experimental colleagues at Oxford  —  particularly in the Dorothy Hodgkin Institute, the Quantum Materials and Ultracold Matter groups — and around the world.
